(West Des Moines, IA) -- A new developer has been selected to revitalize the Valley West Mall area in West Des Moines.

Mayor Russ Trimble is hopeful the firm will share the city's vision of demolishing the mall to make room for new housing, retail, restaurants and a green space.

"If they want to do that development with all the different ammenities and what not, mixed-use development, then we are in for $110 million dollars, " Trimble said.

Trimble says the city incentives will not be offered if the firm moves in another direction.

He adds the biggest challenge is to come to an agreement with the mall's longtime tenant, JC Penney, which has a lease in place until 2032.

The new developer has 90-days to close on the property. They won't be publicly identified until then.
