Adair County Freedom Rock Pays Tribute to Fallen Iowa Service Members

(Adair County, IA) -- The Freedom Rock mural in Adair County has been repainted once again, this time honoring four Iowa soldiers killed while serving in the Middle East over the past year.

Staff Sergeants William Nathaniel Howard and Edgar Torres-Tovar were killed in Syria in December and Army Reserve Major Jeffrey O’Brien and Sergeant Declan Coady were killed in Kuwait in March. All four of their faces are now painted on the 28th annual freedom rock in tribute.

Artist Ray Sorensen says this year’s mural also marks 250 years of American history. It features imagery including Washington crossing the Delaware, Medal of Honor recipients, and tributes to 9/11 heroes.
