(Creston, IA) -- An Iowa teacher will receive a $145,000 settlement and leave her job with a clean employment record, resolving a federal lawsuit tied to a Facebook post she made following the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Melisa Crook, an English teacher at Creston High School, was placed on administrative leave last fall after posting a comment on social media about Kirk’s shooting. School officials later moved to terminate her employment.
In late October, a federal judge temporarily blocked the school district from proceeding with Crook’s dismissal, ruling that she was likely to succeed on her First Amendment claim.
