(Iowa) -- Iowa's Attorney General is warning against tax-day scams.

The Iowa Attorney General's Office says the most common tax scams in Iowa include tax preparer fraud, phone or imposter scams, email or phishing scams, or identity theft. The AG's office says its important to take precautions like thoroughly researching a tax preparer before choosing one, never sharing personal or financial information by phone, text, or email, and verifying the source of any unexpected text, email, or phone call you receive regarding your tax return.

The Iowa Attorney General's Office also notes that scammers often use pressuring or threatening language to try to get an immediate payment. Anyone who has been targeted by tax scams or knows someone who has been the target of a scammer is encouraged to report the scam to the Iowa Attorney General's Office. Scams can be reported by emailing consumer@iowa.gov, by calling 888-777-4590, or by going to the Iowa Attorney General's Office website.
