(Davenport, IA) -- Dozens of bridges in Iowa will get repaired or replaced with grant funding from a federal program.
The U.S. Department of Transportation is awarding $64-million to the state of Iowa to upgrade its worst-in-the-nation bridge inventory.
Thirty-four bridges are slated to be fixed or replaced entirely with money from the Competitive Highway Bridge Program funding up to 80% of the budget.
The bridge improvement projects span multiple counties, including improvements in Scott, Muscatine, Jackson, Henry, Cedar, and Des Moines counties.
The largest project is the still undecided repair or replacement of the Centennial Bridge over the Mississippi River between downtown Davenport and downtown Rock Island, Illinois.
