(Davenport, IA) -- Davenport taxpayers deserve transparency.

That's what Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand said yesterday about a city council decision nearly three years ago to pay three former city employees a total of $2-million without a public discussion.

Sand is awaiting a state Supreme Court decision on a request by his office to gain access to recordings of closed-door meetings between Davenport city council and the city attorney over the issue.

The payments were made in response to accusations of harassment by city staff, but not made public until after the 2023 city election.
