(Des Moines, IA) -- Two separate incidents in Des Moines involving dogs biting children has left one infant dead and a toddler with serious injuries.

Des Moines Police say an infant died April 3rd after being bitten by a dog.

A two-year old was bitten in the face by a dog Tuesday and taken to the hospital where they are expected to survive.

Both cases remain under investigation.

Police warn young children are at greater risk for dog bites for a number of reasons.

Often, kids' behavior scares dogs or children don't know the warning signs that a dog is about to bite.
