(Washington, D.C.) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issues a temporary emergency waiver allowing E15 sales nationwide this summer.

The waiver allows gasoline blended with E15 to be sold across the country and removes any federal restrictions on selling E10. Current regulations restrict E15 sales from June through mid-September. The emergency waiver will go into effect on May 1st to allow time for fuel retailers to adapt to the change.

On March 9th of this year, seven state governors, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden, and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, sent at letter to the EPA asking for an emergency waiver for E15 in the coming months. The text of the letter is available online.
