(Iowa) -- A baby is now under the care of the state of Iowa after being surrendered through Iowa's Safe Haven Act.

The baby girl was born on March 6th and surrendered to state custody, where she will be placed with a foster family until permanent placement is found. She is now the 80th infant turned over to the state since the state's Safe Haven law went into effect in 2002.

Under the law, parents can anonymously and safely surrender babies up to 90 days old at locations like hospitals and police and fire stations across the state.
