(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- An Iowa historic board is getting dragged into the battle over immigration enforcement.

The Cedar Rapids Historic Preservation Commission is considering a proposal by DHS to add a security fence to their ICE check-in facility in a 50-year-old building on Square D Drive.

DHS says it needs the fence to protect the facility from protestors.

Opponents say the fence would detract from the character of the building.

Commission members say they find the fence in poor taste architecturally, but admit they have no legal authority to block the project.
