(Iowa) -- The Iowa Board of Regents is considering raising university tuition as two bills in the Iowa Legislature aim to stop those increases.

The proposal would raise tuition by 3 percent at the University of Iowa and Iowa State University, and by 2.7 percent at the University of Northern Iowa for the 2026–27 school year.

House File 2362 would require universities to lock in tuition rates for resident undergraduate students for four years, ensuring they pay the same amount from their first year through graduation. House File 2242 would ban any tuition increases for the next five years.

The Board of Regents will take up the proposed increases at its April meeting.
