(Iowa) -- A new bill introduced in the Iowa House would ban so-called "personalized pricing" in Iowa.

House File 24-69 would prohibit retailers from using automated decision-making systems to alter prices for specific individuals based on surviellance data regarding a person's characteristics, salaries, behaviors, biometrics, or groups to which that person belongs. The bill defines automated decision-making systems as those using artificial intelligence or algorithms to make decisions or predictions with little or no human intervention.

Retailers who violate the bill's provisions could face injunction, a $40,000 civil penalty, restoration of a wronged individual's money or property, and more. The full text of the bill is available on the Iowa Legislature's website.
