Iowa National Guardsmen Welcomed Home in Des Moines, Sioux City

(Iowa) -- Welcome‑home ceremonies are being held today in Des Moines and Sioux City for Iowa National Guardsmen returning from deployment in the Middle East.

About 250 Iowa National Guardsmen who had been serving in Iraq and Syria are coming home. Soldiers from the 34th Infantry Division are returning in phases. Their mission concludes following the December ISIS attack that killed Staff Sergeant Edgar Torres Tovar of Des Moines and Staff Sergeant Nate Howard of Marshalltown.

Troops based in Sioux City will be welcomed home at 1:45 this afternoon. Ceremonies in Des Moines will take place at the airport at 3:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
