(Iowa) -- A new study finds the cost of comfortably raising two children in Iowa is significantly outpacing average household earnings.
The study from Lending Tree finds that families in Iowa need to earn $325,629 per year to comfortably raise two children. That's 161.4% higher than the average annual household income of a family with two children in Iowa of $124,582. Lending tree finds that the average child care costs for two children in Iowa is $22,794 per year.
Nationally, the average family needs to earn $402,708 to comfortably raise two children, which is 176.5% higher than the average household income for a family with two children of $145,656. Lending Tree finds that American Indian and African American families are seeing the highest discrepancies between income and child care costs nationwide.
