(Iowa) -- The state of Iowa's lawsuit against social media giant TikTok will proceed.
The Iowa Supreme Court rejected a motion by TikTok to dismiss the state's consumer protection lawsuit and ruled that TikTok's deceptive age-appropriate ratings were used to convince Iowa parents and children to download the app. The suit was filed by Attorney General Brenna Bird and accuses TikTok of misleading parents about its content in order to receive a 12+ age rating.
The Court's ruling creates a path for the case to move to trial and affirms state courts' jurisdiction in cases involving TikTok. The court's ruling cites other states having also rejected similar jurisdiction-based motions to dismiss lawsuits.
The court's full ruling is available on the Iowa Courts website.
