(Iowa) -- With an Iowan set to compete with Team USA next month in the winter Olympics, a new study finds Iowans struggle to identify Olympic stars.
Sports website The Grueling Truth conducted a national study testing Americans' ability to identify 18 current and historic Olympic champions with four multiple choice answers as to their identities. Collectively, these Olympians have won 75 medals. The Olympians respondents were asked to identify include:
- Jack Eichel, ice hockey
- Red Gerard, snowboarding
- Allyson Felix, track and field
- Missy Franklin, swimming
- Shani Davis, speed skating
- Tabitha Peterson, curling
- Keri Walsh Jennings, beach volleyball
- Michael Johnson, track and field
- Mikaela Shiffrin, alpine skiing
- Jesse Diggins, cross-country skiing
- Apolo Ohno, short track speed skating
- Bode Miller, alpine skiing
- Ryan Lochte, swimming
- Gabby Douglas, gymnastics
- Michelle Kwan, figure skating
- Shaun White, snowboarding
- Lindsey Vonn, alpine skiing
- Chloe Kim, snowboarding
The study found Iowans failed to recognize 56% of those Olympians.
The most recognized Olympian in Iowa is Shaun White, while the least recognized is hockey player Jack Eichel. West Des Moines native Zach Stoppelmoor will compete in speed skating for Team USA next month at the winter games in Milano Cortina.
