(Bailey, CO) -- Colorado law enforcement looks for help in the Midwest as they try to identify human remains found last year.
The remains were in a campsite outside of Bailey, Colorado on federal government land.
Police say the "John Doe" is a male, estimated to be between 30 and 60-years of age, and likely to be of Eastern European ancestry.
Genetic genealogy suggests the person has Slovakian DNA and that is why investigators are reaching out to locals in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Omaha, Nebraska, and Pueblo, Colorado because of Czech/Slovak communities in those cities.
Investigators now believe the "John Doe" may have relatives in those areas.
They say this focus is driven by the discovery of numerous DNA matches across Nebraska and the identification of strong Czech/Slovak communities in Pueblo and Cedar Rapids.
The Cedar Rapids area is home to a significant Czech/Slovak cultural community and is also linked to a known Slovakian DNA match.
As of now, information regarding the case, including how the man might have died, is limited.
