(Polk County, IA) -- The Polk County Sheriff's Office is searching for the driver involved in a hit-and-run crash involving two recumbent tricycles.
The Sheriff's Office says the crash happened in Des Moines on November 3rd near the intersection of NW 26th Street and NW 54th Avenue when two cyclists, husband and wife David and Kathleen VanGundy, were hit by a southbound vehicle around 2:45pm. Both were thrown from their tricycles, and David suffered serious injuries, while Kathleen's injuries were minor. Investigators say the driver of the vehicle fled the scene.
The Sheriff's Office says the vehicle may be a silver 2011-2016 KIA Sportage and likely has passenger side damage. Investigators say the driver may have fled the scene headed southbound on NW 26th Street.
