(Iowa ) -- A baby boy is now in the custody of the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services under the state’s Safe Haven Law. The law allows parents up to 90 days to decide whether they can care for their child, or they may surrender the child at designated Safe Haven locations such as hospitals, police stations, or fire stations.

The baby, born on September 8th, will be placed in foster care until a more permanent home is found. He is the fourth baby surrendered to the state this year.
