(Des Moines, IA) -- The group tasked with finding savings in Iowa government says they never intended to cut teacher pay.

Iowa DOGE Task Force chair Terry Lutz says his earlier comments we're misunderstood.

Lutz says it was always the commission's goal to raise teacher pay and provide incentive bonuses.

That's just one of the recommendations the task force finalized Monday.

Another is replacing the IPERS pension fund for new public employees with a 401K-style alternative.

A report containing all the recommendations has to be on the governor's desk by the 29th.

The task force's recommendations are non-binding.

It's up to the governor and the legislature to decide how they want to move forward with them.
