(Iowa City, IA) -- University of Iowa Healthcare is before the Board of Regents looking for approval to begin prep work for a new inpatient tower.

UIHC is seeking $72.5 million for early work to renovate and expand entrances to the existing hospital and skywalk.

Just over $13 million has already been spent on planning and design services for the 842,000-square-foot building that didn’t require Regent approval.

Actual construction of the inpatient tower is projected to cost more than $1 billion.
