Omaha Auto Theft Suspect Arrested In Iowa

(Omaha, NE) -- The Douglas County, Nebraska Sheriff's Office says an Omaha burglary and car theft suspect is in custody in Iowa.

Investigators say 25-year- old Damien Alexander was arrested by the Iowa State Patrol in Jasper County on Friday.

He is accused of breaking into "Onyx Automotive" in west Omaha early Friday morning.

At the dealership, Deputies discovered a suspect had gained entrance to the showroom on the North side of the building.

Investigators say once inside the showroom, video from security cameras shows the male suspect attempting to break into the sales manager’s office and rummaging through showroom vehicles in an attempt to take control of one.

Video shows the suspect running back and forth between the showroom and the service area attempting to locate keys for specific vehicles.

The suspect is eventually seen driving away in a stolen BMW suv through a security gate.

The Sheriff says Alexander was arrested hours later Friday in the stolen vehicle by the Iowa State Patrol.

Alexander was booked into the Jasper County Jail on a warrant, as well as charges for theft – 1st degree, reckless driving, and failure to provide aid/information after a traffic accident.

The Douglas County Sheriff has filed warrants for Alexander for the theft of the vehicle, as well as burglary, and criminal mischief.
