(Waterloo, IA) -- A man wanted for violating parole and failing to appear in court is back in custody after trying to evade law enforcement officers by jumping off a bridge into the Cedar River in Waterloo.

Investigators say police were called to a Greyhound bus stop after 33 year-old Christopher Peak was reported in the area. Police say Peak tried to escape and ended up jumping into the river from a bridge, eventually grabbing hold of a chain hanging from that bridge. Emergency crews were able to rescue him, and he's now in the Black Hawk County jail.
