Iowans Honored For Heroic Actions

(Des Moines, IA) -- Several Iowans were recognized for their heroic actions today (Monday) at the Iowa State Capitol. Caleb Crocker of Guttenberg was given a lifesaving award for going into a burning home five times to rescue disabled residents. Andrew Krieg of Cylinder was also given a lifesaving award for entering a burning home in rural Palo Alto County to rescue and elderly man.

Shelby County Sheriff Neil Gross and deputies Cody Eckles, Jacob Hoss, and William McDaniel received the Sullivan Brothers Ward for Valor for their actions which resulted in saving a man in Elk Horn, Iowa on July, 12th, 2021. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office had been called out after a man had barricaded himself inside a home, filled with ammunition. The man stated he had poured gasoline in the the home and threatened to blow it up. Authorities eventually used a battering ram to enter the home which had caught fire, causing explosions in the interior. The man was rescued from the fire.
