(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Tom Ahart is stepping down from his position. He made that announcement Monday morning at Central Campus, saying his last day will be June 30th. Des Moines Public Schools says it will appoint an interim superintendent in a few weeks. The next superintendent's expected to be chosen by the start of the 2023-2024 school year. Ahart has been with the school district since 2011 when he was hired as associate superintendent. He took over as interim superintendent in 2012 and was handed the full-time job in 2013.
