My son, much like myself, enjoys a ride down memory lane of childhood, in this case it is McCrae park on the south side of Des Moines. I spent many hours of my youth discovering all the adventures the park had to offer, in turn it was also the place I took my son in his early child hood and always pointed out the bench on which my father, on bended knee, proposed to my mom. As dusk was approaching he wheeled his convertible for a once around the park excursion as he approached one of the curves he saw something swish by his right eye and land in the passenger seat followed by a loud bang. There on the leather were the remnants of a bottle rocket and although not tearing the surface left a substantial burn mark. "A Sniper" he relented then immediately made me proud, "It could have been worse pops, I could have had my new $1600 replacement top up and had it damaged". I told him to always look to the bright side of life. Then he followed it up with "I remember that you once told me how you and your friends would throw cherry bombs at cars in the park, I called to make sure you were home." My spirit lives on!
