As I sat in my home studio conversing with my proteges back in the studio the subject of naming hurricanes came up. I found myself somewhat depressed over the fact that they both had hurricanes named after them, Nathan and Isabelle, but never has one been named Melvin. Drawing upon the rarity of last weeks land Hurricane (Derecho) that packed winds up to 140 mph which is equal to a category 4 hurricane, might be my opportunity to correct this egregious oversight by the National Weather Service. My wife, who had just entered to enjoy her morning coffee had the audacity to say my name was not threatening enough and people might not take warnings seriously enough after all Hurricane Melvin should apply to storms with winds under 10 miles an hour and produces only a heavy drizzle, OUCH! Point well taken.
