No Charges After Des Moines Police Say Pedestrian in I-235 Crash Dies

DES MOINES, Iowa - No charges are being filed from an accident that killed a pedestrian on I-235 in Des Moines last month.

Police say 32-year-old Paul Harris III of Newton walked onto the highway at the East 14th Street exit on July 31 for an unknown reason.

Des Moines Fire Department medics took Harris to a local hospital for treatment. He was in critical condition at the time and later died from his injuries..

Officers say say the 24-year-old driver who hit Harris had no time to react and avoid the crash. There were no signs of impairment, and distracted driving has been ruled out. Police do not plan to file charges against him.

The Des Moines Police Department Traffic Unit is continuing to finalize its technical investigation into the crash.
