One dead, two injured in Huxley house fire

One person is dead and two others injured after a house fire Sunday morning in Huxley.  Authorities say Brett Van Ersvelde, 47, died from injuries suffered in the fire.  Julie McLain, 44, and the couple's 17-year-old son are being treated for smoke inhalation. Police say McLain and Van Ersvelde were trying to get the boy out of a back bedroom, but he was unconscious on his bed.  Huxley police used an ax to break through a window to rescue them.  Van Ersvelde was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, where he died.  McLain was treated and released at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.  The son was taken to University Hospitals in Iowa City.  The couple's 16- and 19-year old daughters escaped unharmed.  Officials think the fire began in the kitchen. An official cause wasn’t immediately released.
