The effort to build a Healthy Life Center in Ames is getting a $1 million boost. Heartland Senior Services says George and Jan Beran of Ames will give the organization a $1 million toward its $3.5 million goal to participate in the proposed center. The Berans' contribution is in addition to an anonymous gift of $1.2 million. A separate $18.2 -million fundraising effort has brought in nearly $3.5 million in pledges. The proposed Healthy Life Center partners also include the City of Ames, Mary Greeley Medical Center, Iowa State, Des Moines Area Community College, and Story County. The nearly $49 million facility would be located on Scholl Rd., just north of Ontario St.
