ISU Alert nets Thursday night arrest

A suspect is in custody after an Iowa State campus-wide alert was issued Thursday night on reports of possibly armed individuals. ISU Police issued the alert just before 10:00 p.m. on reports two people possibly with guns were near the Fredricksen Court apartments. A second alert was issued about a half hour later reporting the suspects were four college-aged males carrying a handgun and a rifle. The alert also said Ames Police were assisting in the search and advised residents to stay indoors. ISU Police issued an all-clear just after 11:15 p.m., saying one person had been taken into custody and that BB guns were recovered. It's unknown whether criminal charges will be filed but ISU Police say the possession or use of weapons on campus is a violation of university rules. The suspect has not been identified.
