Local law enforcement is ready for what could be a very busy Saturday morning. Ames Police Cmdr. Geoff Huff says alcohol-fuled parties on so-called "8:01 Day" began a few years ago in the Iowa State Greek community that had to stay dry during rush week until just after 8:00 a.m. on the Saturday before the semester starts. He says law enforcement now prepares for "8:01" morning festiviies that have spread to the broader student body in the last couple of years. Iowa State's fall semester starts Monday.
