Campustown businesses will not have the ability to tax themselves to pay for beautifcation and other improvement efforts. City Planning and Housing Director Kelly Deikmann says a number of property owners in the area filed a petition opposing the establishment of a Self-Supporting Municipal Improvement District. Campustown Action Assocation Director Karin Chitty says she's disappointed that the hard work to establish the SSMID is for naught. She says it's unclear whether or not CAA will try to resurrect the SSMID in the future.
