Ames fire chief finalist in labor dispute

An Ames fire chief finalist is in an ongoing labor dispute with her former employer. Former Davenport fire chief Lynn Washburn-lLvingston says in an Iowa Civil Rights Commission complaint she was a victim of harassment, sexual harassment, and retaliation. She claims she was fired last year four days after making the complaint. Davenport City Manager Corri Spiegel tells the Quad-City Times Washburn-Livingston was fired for “misplaced prioritization” of department needs, an inability to work with the davenport firefighters union, excessive travel, and time away from duties. Washburn-Livingston will give a public presentation in Ames City Hall on July 26th. The other finalist, interim Ames Fire Chief Rich Higgins, will hold a public presentation August 13th. The city is looking to replace former fire chief Shawn Bayouth, who resigned in April.
