The City of Ames Housing Department finds itself in an unusual situation. Coordinator Vanessa Baker-Lattimer says they recently found out Ames will get more than $600,000 in unexpected funds from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. She admits when she saw the number she assumed HUD made a mistake. Baker-Lattimer says they'll use the unexpected money along with an expected $150,000 to help pay for the construction of an affordable housing development at 321 State Ave.
