Corn, bean crops are ahead of schedule

Despite delays in planting earlier in the season, corn and soybean development statewide is more than a week ahead of the five-year-average.  The USDA weekly report says drier conditions and warmer temperatures allowed farmers to work in the fields about five days last week.  Seventy-eight percent of the corn crop was rated in good to excellent condition, as was 76 percent of the soybean crop.
