Westside stays in rental cap area

The Westside neighborhood will stay on a list of areas near the Iowa State campus under a 25-percent rental housing cap.  The City Council Tuesday rejected an appeal from people in the area who don't want to see limits placed on the number of ISU students renting property.  Sue Weiss says her neighborhood's proximity to campus means it should have a higher concentration of student rentals.  Second Ward council member Tim Gartin says a new rental housing code is bound to put more students in the Westside neighborhood--even with the cap.  He says pushing higher intensity with more rental property isn't ideal. The council also gave inital approval to an ordinance giving relief to property owners in the neighborhoods who feel they are adversly effected by the cap.
