Squaw, Skunk flood in Ames

The flooded Squaw Creek and Skunk River in Ames have crested after more than six inches of rain fell in the area Thursday.  The Iowa Flood Center's map shows the Skunk River will crest just over 22 feet at Highway 30--a little more than a foot above flood stage. Flooding will happen in the fields on SE 16th St. and in the Hunziker Youth Sports Complex.  Also, the Squaw Creek at Lincoln Way is expected to crest at just over 12 feet--two feet above flood stage.  That puts water in Brookside and Stuart Smith parks, and well as the parking lot of Stadium View apartments on S. 4th Stt.  Water in the Skunk and Squaw will begin to recede Friday afternoon.
