DEVELOPING STORY--Low level flooding expected in Ames

The 4.5 inches of rain that fell in, and just to the northwest of, Ames early Thursday morning will cause some local flooding late through late Thursday night.  Ames Police Cmdr. Geoff Huff says the Skunk River is expected flood near Highway 30, spilling into fields near S. 16th St. and the Hunziker Youth Sports Complex.  He says the Squaw Creek, which is especially prone to flash flooding, will leave it's banks as well--flooding the parking lots at the Stadium View Apartments on S. 4th St. The Iowa Flood Center says water levels on both waterways will recede late Thursday night and early Friday morning.
