Council approves rental cap, considers hardship options

The Ames City Council gave 3rd reading approval Tuesday to a 25-percent rental occupancy cap for seven neighborhoods near the Iowa State campus.  Along with the cap, the council also considerd a series of so-called "hardship options" for people who may have trouble selling thier properties because of the cap.  At-large Council Member Amber Corrieri and 4th Ward Member Chris Nelson continued to object to the cap.  Nelson says it's not a good policy. The council will consider a formal draft of the rental code hardship options when it meets next month.
