Special Olympics Summer Games start Thursday

Special Olympics Iowa's summer games celebrates its 34th anniversary as athletes get set for this year's competition in Ames. Particiapants from across the state open play this weekend. Special Olympics Iowa offers 23 sports. Thursday's events feature swimming, cycling, soccer, and track and field. Thursday is also the final leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run from Des Moines to Ames. It leads into opening ceremonies at Hilton Coliseum at 7:00 p.m.
