The Ames Police Department says contracting companies are scouring neighborhoods looking to repair hail damage from last week's thunderstorms. Cmdr. Geoff Huff says out-of-town companies that come to your door offering estimates and repairs must have a vendor's permit issued by the city. He also says it's a good idea to contact your insurance company before agreeing to any repairs, and that it's always important to get agreements for repair work in writing and only pay after it's done.
