The Ames City Council is taking the initial step to rezone land on Lincoln Way near downtown, creating a new gateway distirct. The change would make several properties on Lincoln Way from Clark to Duff avenues non-confomring. Jolene Trickle told the council Tuesday it threatens the auto repair shop her family has owned for decades. Second Ward council member Tim Gartin says the non-conforming designation might seem ominous but shouldn't change the operation of businesses in the new zoning area. The council will take up the issue again at its second meeting in May.
