City Council advances rental occupancy cap

The Ames City Council gave first-reading approval to an ordinance setting 25 percent rental occupancy caps on four neighborhoods near the Iowa State campus. Second Ward council member Tim Gartin said at tuesday's meeting he was swayed to support the cap by residents who overwhelmingly asked for limits on properties being turned into rentals.  At-large council member Amber Corrieri renewed her opposition to the measure, saying the caps could make it impossible for property owners to sell. The council will take up the rental cap again next month.
