House passes anti-"Sanctuary City" bill

State money would be withheld from any city in Iowa that refuses keep undocumented immigrants in jail an additional 48 hours after being arrested for a crime if requested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The Iowa House on Tuesday approved an amended bill that was passed to them by the Iowa Senate.  One of the most notable changes made by the House specifies that the federal requests to hold a suspect must be made in writing.  Supporters say the bill returns the rule of law and helps prevent more crimes from being committed. The bill passed on a party line vote and heads back to the Iowa Senate.
