The Ames City Council takes up the issue of neighborhood rental occupancy rates as it meets in a workshop Tuesday. It's a continuation of work the council did last month in answering questions and addressing concerns brought about by a new rental housing code. Mayor John Haila says even if the council sets a ratio for the number of rentals versus owner-occupied housing in a neighborhood, it won't act abitrarilly in determining which houses are affcted. He also says that ratio, whatever it may be, could take years to achieve as rental properties are sold and converted to owner-occupied houses. Tuesday night's workshop in City Hall starts at 6:00.
