Triple A says the average price in Ames is $2.52 a gallon--$.06 above the statewide average of $2.46, and just a cent below the national average of $2.53 a gallon. Davenport also clocks in at $2.52 a gallon. As for the state's cheapest gas--it's in Council Bluffs, where drivers are paying $2.37 a gallon.
