UP and APD conduct train crossing safety effort

A joint traffic safety project Wednesday with Union Pacific Railroad, the Ames Police Department, and Story County Sheriff’s Office resulted in a number of citations, warnings and an arrest.  The Ames PD says the main focus was train crossings in the downtown area from Duff to Hazel avenues.  Eight people were cited for failure to stop at a crossing, not having insurance, and a pedestrian who dodged the train stop arms. 21 warnings were given for failure to stop at railroad crossing and another pedestrian who tried to get past the stop arms. The lone arrest came from someone who was driving while barred.
