The Ames City Council Tuesday held off on the first passage of a new zoning desgination aimed at clearing the way for redevelopment on Lincoln Way near downtown. The plan creates a Downtown Gateway Area, changing zoning from it's current Highway-Oriented Commercial. Planning and Housing Director Kelly Diekmann says many of the properties in the area now don't fit the new designation. The council asked city staff for more information on how the new zoning would affect properties in the area.
