City to develop State Ave. land

It appears the City of Ames is getting into the land development business, even if on a limited basis.  The City Council Tuesday wrestled with a number of options for what to do with city-owned land where the old middle school sat, settling on a plan to have city staff begin the process of developing single-family attached and stand-alone housing.  First Ward Council Member Gloria Betcher says putting the city in charge will speed the process and get results. There's no timeframe on when a specific development plan will come back to the City Council.
